Imported to Morocco from Indonesia where it first grew in the wild. Mace from Indonesia is said to be the most flavorful in the world. Mace is the outer, lace-like covering of nutmeg. It has a sweet and fragrant aroma, similar to nutmeg but stronger. Its flavor is warm and aromatic, more intense and slightly sweeter than nutmeg. In Morocco, it is used in both sweet and savory dishes.
